DEPOSITS FROM INTEGRATORS

Submission integrators are required to deposit a complete submission package to their designated S3 URL. This package consists of two primary files:

  1. A .go XML file: This file must be uniquely named by the integrating system and contains essential metadata about the submission.
  2. An archive file (.zip): This file contains the JATS XML metadata file for the submission and any additional manuscript files. The .zip file should not include any directory structure.

Ingestion Types

ScholarOne submission integration supports the following types of workflow submissions:

  1. Original Submission: Ingestion of an original manuscript (referred to as an "R0"). This manuscript is not intended to be a revision or update to any existing manuscript.
  2. Revision: Ingestion of a subsequent manuscript version (referred to as an "R1...Rn"). This occurs after an original submission has been ingested and given a Revision-type decision.
  3. Resubmission: Ingestion of a subsequent manuscript after a resubmission-type decision. Similar to a revision, but the new manuscript version will receive a wholly new manuscript ID.
  4. Invited: Ingestion of an invited (stub) submission, where a manuscript is initiated by the journal rather than the author.
  5. Final Files/First Look: Ingestion of the final, production-ready manuscript files. This typically occurs after peer review and editorial decisions are complete, and the manuscript is accepted for publication.
  6. Replacement: Ingestion that updates an existing submission in draft with new files and metadata, as opposed to creating an entirely new original or revised version. Replacement ingestions may only occur after a manuscript has been sent back to the author for changes by the journal (often referred to as an "unsubmit").
Important: Draft documents created within ScholarOne Manuscript system are not eligible for replacement ingestions, except in the case of Transfers and Unsubmits.
  7. Update External ID: Represents a specialized ingestion type used to assign an external ID to a manuscript that has been transferred into the system.
  8. Transfer: Although not a standard ingestion type, Transfer is used in conjunction with the Update External ID ingestion. It applies to manuscripts that have been transferred into the system and require the assignment of an external ID. Once this linkage is established, other ingestion types (e.g., Revision, Final Files) can be used to continue processing the manuscript.
